School IT Team / Technology Information
Tanglewood has elected to NOT send Chromebooks home with students for the 2025-26 school year to help maintain the devices and ensure that all students have equal access throughout the school year. Devices will be issued in sets to the various classroom teachers to use during instruction.
All students will be given the forms shown in the section below (in a packet) to read and sign with their parent/guardian. These forms must be signed and returned to the school. Mrs. Railsback is our campus technologist and she will keep these forms in her office for the school year.
Need assistance with your classroom Chromebook?
If a student is having problems with the classroom Chromebook or charger, they should follow these steps:
- With teacher permission, ask a classmate if they know how to fix the problem. Several students may have experienced a similar issue already and know how to help.
- Ask the teacher for help. Several of our staff know how to do basic troubleshooting.
- If the student has tried steps 1 and 2, have them take the Chromebook and/or charger to Mrs. Railsback. She is located on the first floor in the downstairs assistant principal's office in room 190.
Help us help our students take care of their Chromebooks!
Students will be assigned devices to use in each class. They should use the same device each time they are in that classroom to help maintain their accounts, and also to help identify any issues with the device.
If the device is lost or damaged, it must be reported to the classroom teacher, and then to Mrs. Railsback, right away. Any fees will need to be paid as soon as possible. The student responsible will then be placed on the "paper user" list and will not be allowed to use classroom devices.
Students should not take any devices out of the classroom. All devices must be returned to their designated location in each classroom at the end of each class period.
Stickers:
Students may NOT add or remove any stickers to the Chromebooks.
The Chromebooks belong to Tanglewood MS, and should only have the stickers that Mrs. Railsback has placed on them (the Tanglewood crest and the inventory tags located on the back).
Any official stickers need to stay there and not be removed or drawn on.
General Care:
There has been an increase in Chromebooks being turned in with damaged hinges and/or missing keys from the keyboard, as well as cracked screens. These are rarely covered under the warranty and are very costly to repair.
Students should NOT use tablet mode to help prevent damage to their hinges. We understand regular wear and tear - however, intentional damage or neglect will result in additional fees for repairs.
Chromebook keys do not just “fall off” of the keyboard - it takes purposeful force to remove them or cause them to become loose. There will be a $25 fee to repair/replace missing keys.
Some of the devices (but not all) have touch screens which may incur a fee of up to $200 for screen damage.
Passwords:
Students should not share their birthday, student ID number, or other personal information with their friends. Keep your password private to prevent others from getting into your school accounts.
If you need to have your password reset or change, please ask your teacher if you can see Mrs. Railsback for assistance.
